Ransomware and Backups, Explained for Families

Ransomware locks files and demands payment to unlock them. It often arrives through an unexpected attachment or link.

The best protection is a backup: a spare copy of your files kept somewhere else, ideally automatic, with one copy disconnected.

With a backup, a locked device can be cleaned and the files copied back, without paying anyone.

Updates and careful clicking make an attack much less likely in the first place.

The rule from the episode: back it up before you need it.
